Turkish Newspaper

Earlier this year, a Turkish newspaper announced that workers had discovered the remains of an ancient underground city in southeast Turkey. Work began on the project three years ago, and excavations have since turned up a number of structures dating back to different periods.

Hasankeyf, another ancient Turkish town, has been submerged by rising water levels as the massive Ilisu dam is built along the river. Authorities plan to move nine more monuments from the town to a new “archaeological park” by the end of the year.
